Gingerbread Tradition

Our annual tradition, which started 10 years ago, of decorating Gingerbread Houses was a hit this year. We added Trees to the mix and those were super cute too. We know Christmas is near when we gather and slather frosting all over cookie houses and stick yummy candies all over them!
Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving

Today we gathered at my mom's house for a beautiful Thanksgiving feast. Seriously, the food was a to die for!! Although the food was great, the best part about this gathering was being with family. All of my siblings (minus one) were present with their spouses and kids. After an early dinner we headed outside for a walk around Balboa Island. After our walk we came back and enjoyed awesome Pumpkin Pie (thank you Costco). We have so much to be thankful for!!
Aunt Desi with kids (wait, is that a kid or Aunt Chris?)
Love Birds- Dan and Melissa
Grandma Mary and her boys!
They already looked alike, but the glasses clinch it!
The Crazy Crouts
Grandkids!
The teens are growing up (literally)
Grammy and Grandpa with all of the grandkids (below age 20)

Native American Day

Today was "Indian" day for 3rd grade. There were four stations that the students got to visit- hunting, gathering, games and trade/barter. I was able to volunteer and really enjoyed watching Nathan and his classmates experience a different culture, time and way of life. Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall Is Here...

...or is that winter? It sure feels cold enough to be a Southern California winter right now and I love it. I love bundling up in warm clothes and feeling the cold air on my face and smelling all the wonderful smells that come with the season.

New computer

Just got a new iMac. The old laptop was crawling along and so we decided to get a desktop computer since I never took the "laptop" off the desk. It is so sleek and fast! I love Apple!

Jason:: School Project

It's that time of year for fun Fall projects at school. This one for Jason was a family project. I should have taken a picture of the turkey before it was decorated, but it is much more interesting now.
We went around the neighborhood and found things from nature. Thank goodness for hot glue guns- they make everything stick!!

Everyone pitched in to decorate the turkey. I am so pleased with how it turned out. It reminded me a bit of the Rose Parade and how they create beautiful floats out of things found in nature!

Nathan's "NEW" eyes

Today Nathan got his first pair of eye glasses. He was really excited to get them and is thrilled that he can see better. The prescription is really low, but he needed a little help with distance! They look big on him in the picture, but in person they fit him just right.

I had my first pair when I was 5. Dan was in first grade when he got his. Maybe Nathan will be blessed and have Dan's vision (mild) and not mine (severe-before Laskik surgery).
Check out my handsome boy!!

New Flooring

I have always wanted a different flooring other than carpet underneath where we eat. When our landlord replaced the carpet 2 1/2 years ago we asked for hardwood floor downstairs, but he said it would be too expensive. Being grateful for the new carpet, I didn't push it.

Now that we have a dog who lives in the back half of the house, it is more important than ever to have a surface that is easy to clean up. I approached the landlord suggesting that we pay for half of the cost and he agreed- a win, win for both of us.
I was able to choose the color and style too which is awesome. We went with a distressed, laminate product and the color is called "African Teak". The installers came this afternoon and finished before dinner time. We love our new floor- even if Chloe slides all over the place!
We need a rug near the couch and then the room will be complete. The color of the floor brings such a warmth to the room that it was lacking before! I wish we would have done it years ago, but I am so thankful that it is done now!!

Random Thoughts

I was driving in the car and I started thinking about concerts that I have been to in my life. AS I thought harder I realized I had been to quite a few. What I notice most is how random they are and such varied genres!! Here is a list of the concerts I have attended (mostly in chronological order):
Barbara Mandrel
Amy Grant (2x)
General Public
Oingo Boingo (3x)
George Michael
Phil Collins
Elton John (2x)
Meat Loaf
U2
The Eagles
Steven Curtis Chapman
Third Day
Dixie Chicks
Chris Isaac (2x)
Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris
Sara Bareilles (coming in Dec 2011)

There are so many I wish I had seen and some I shouldn't have seen- but they are all apart of my life experiences- and that is good, right?
