A Butterfly is Born

We left for school today and we had 3 chrysalis and when we got home I heard screams and "we have a Monarch" coming from the boys. We have been waiting for a little over a month to see our first rebirth of our caterpillar/butterfly!!

His wings are full grown now and he is busy drying them out, eating and getting ready to take off. What a miracle this experience has been- especially watching the look of complete amazement on the boy's faces!!

I wish you could see him in person, but enjoy the pictures below!!
Wow- He is so close!!

Hero:: Thomas A. Edison

Nathan just finished a project at school. They had to choose someone that they admire(their HERO) and do a report about them. Nathan's first choice was Inspector Gadget. He was quickly told that Gadget (although cool and robotic) wasn't a real person. So............ his next choice was Thomas Alva Edison. What a great choice. As Nathan said, "He is my hero because he is just like me". They both love science, doing experiments, inventing things and thinking outside the box. Our family now knows more about Mr. Edison than ever before. He invented so many things that effect our life today!
"I have an idea"- that's right, Mr. Edison invented the electric light bulb that replaced gas lamps back in 1879. He also invented the phonograph, the first movie camera and many others!
Besides a written report on his hero- listing who they were, where they grew up, what were their accomplishments and why you think they are a hero and why you want to be like them- the kids also had to make a poster (mommy helped a little bit)
Part of Nathan's assignment was to dress like their hero. In most pictures of Mr. Edison, you would see him wearing a bow tie and vest. I think Nathan makes a great T.A.E.

100 days of School

The 100th day of school is a pretty big deal around school- especially in Kindergarten. Every day we add a number to our BIG number chart- the kids are learning all their numbers and we are doing math too. So, we have been counting up to 100 and we finally made it (just 77 more days of school till summer- but whose counting?).

So today we played games, made hats and read books about 100 days at school- what fun!! In Nathan's class they did the same, but even got to make a "100 snack" and he was so proud that he ate all of them in class (I would have a tummy ache).

Sleep Over Fun!!

We had our "girls" over for a sleep over last night. It turned out that Ryan wanted to come home to give his girlfriend a Valentine's present- needless to say, our house was FULL!! After a late night of movies and goodies- we all crashed!!
Saturday saw us at Lowe's for "Build and Grow". This week's project was a heart music box for Valentine's day- so cute. After Lowe's we headed to Sweet Shade Park and spent two hours playing- what a fun and beautiful day!!

Nathan:: Mathobotix -part 3

Happy Nathan!

Nathan has moved to a Tuesday class that seems to be better suited for him. It is smaller and he has more attention from the teacher and also isn't so distracted.

His latest project is called "Dog Sled"- it is almost built and soon he will be doing a technical report on the computer and then programing it to race on a set field. It is so over my head and I am so glad a program like this exists so that my boy can learn and grow!
